We want you to reconsider militant jihad.

Islamist terrorist groups like al-Qaeda and ISIS have sparked thousands of people from around the world to fight “jihad” in places like Syria and Iraq.

The Real Jihad is an initiative of The International Center for the Study of Violent Extremism (a non-profit research organization) designed to counter the extremist ideology that terrorist groups spread online. We produce ISIS defector videos that counter the ISIS narrative and write blogs that question the religious basis for terrorist acts. We host frank discussions of real and perceived political grievances. We also provide clear actions that you might consider instead of going to fight in militant jihad.

As researchers who have studied and chronicled the actions of terrorist groups like al-Qaeda and ISIS for years, we firmly believe that we need to draw attention to the dangers emanating from such violent extremist groups and to fight the appeal of violent extremism in all its forms.

Take advantage of these resources and your personal freedom of action to question militant jihad and then to wage a real jihad — the struggle to live a good and moral life.

You can support the fight against militant jihad.

If you are interested in supporting our efforts to discourage people from joining militant jihad, visit our Resources page to learn how you can help fight extremism in your local community.
